OSOGBO—GOVER NOR Olagunsoye Oyinlola of Osun State yesterday declared that his administration would continue to ensure that justice was not only done, but is seen to be done to all manner of people in all situations.
Speaking at the swearing -in of the former Chief Registrar of the state high court, Mr. Rufus Lawal as Judge , Governor Oyinlola stated that he was prepared to correct all the wrongs of the past. Mr Lawal was compulsorily retired by the last administration after serving the state for 15 years.
According to the governor, the new judge was sworn-in, "in consideration of the fact that the Osun state House of Assembly after due consideration set aside the decision of the former government not to implement the clearance of the National Judicial Council (N.J.C.) which approved his nomination as a high court judge’’."
"It is in view of this that the Osun state House of Assembly, which carried out detailed investigations into the issue after Hon. Justice Lawal was wronged by government, has now decided to correct itself, government being a continuum’’, he said.
He disclosed that the lawmakers among others, got oral evidence from some people, and examined some documents including observations, comments and advice of the Accountant-General emanating from the report of the investigations into financial operations of the judiciary from January 1999 to August 2002.
The governor stressed that the government investigations also revealed that Justice Lawal has not been found guilty of committing fraud which was responsible for his present appointment. Prince Oyinlola pointed out that his administration was conscious of the importance of the judiciary to the wellbeing of any organized society, adding that ‘’we shall strive to ensue that the judiciary is accorded its pride of place through proper funding to enable it operate independent of the executive".
