Osun to reabsorb 500 more sacked teachers, journalists

GOVERNOR Olagunsoye Oyinlola of Osun State has announced plans to re-absorb 500 more teachers that were sacked by the immediate past administration in the state.

The state government had two months ago, re-called about 600 retrenched teachers including journalists that were also sacked by the previous administration.

Oyinlola, while addressing people from Osogbo/Irepodun/Orolu Federal Constituency at the weekend, said the decision to recall more teachers was in line with his government's interest in providing quality and free education for the citizenry.

The governor, who was welcomed by a large crowd at Ataoja of Osogbo's palace had throughout last week, visited the nine federal constituencies in the state along with his Deputy, Erelu Olusola Obada, members of the state executive council and top political and government functionaries.

Besides, the governor intensified his agricultural policy campaign, calling on all indigenes to return to farming, saying this would ensure their means of livelihood and guarantee food security for the state.

According to him, his government has concluded arrangements to encourage those wishing to participate fully in the state government's agricultural programme.

He said of the 300 tractors his government wanted to procure, 30 are available in all the state's 30 council areas.

His administration, he stated, had made fertilisers available at subsidised rates for farmers to help boost agricultural yields.

Oyinlola promised to fulfil all his campaign promises, which included free health services and free education.

Former Minister of International Affairs, Chief Sunday Afolabi, who accompanied the governor on the "Thank you" tour, reiterated the People's Democratic Party's (PDP) determination to ensure "good life for all and change the trend of negative side of the people in the South-West."

He assured the people in Iwo, Ede, Ilesa, Ijebu-Ijesa, Ile-Ife, Ikire, Ikirun and Ila that "everything the PDP promises you in the state would be provided."
