Why AD Governors Failed - Atiku
From Ademola Adeyemo in Osogbo

Vice-President Atiku Abubakar yesterday said that former governors of Alliance for Democracy (AD) failed to deliver dividends of democracy to their people due to their "unco-operative attitudes to the Federal Government."

The governors, he said, stuck to their unco-operative attitude so much that they failed to attract necessary federal presence to their states.

Atiku, who stated this yesterday while commissioning the Radio Nigeria "Gold FM 95.5" located on Iloko-Ijesa road in Ilesa, appealed to the present 36 state governors to co-operate fully with the Federal Government in order to "deliver the dividends of democracy to the people."

Abubakar, however, buttressed his accusation with the example of the former Osun State Governor, Chief Adebisi Akande, whom he said deliberately refused to accept the Federal Government's offer to rehabilitate the Ilesa Water Project due to, "overplaying of partisan politics."

Said he: "The water problem in Ilesa was the fault of the last administration, I told Governor Bisi Akande to forward the papers so that we could work together and see to the implementation of that project, governor Akande never did that till he left."

"On the resumption of the present administration, I called the governor to bring the papers, he did promptly, today tenders have been called for the award of the contract."

He, therefore, called for cooperation among the federal and state governments in the country "so that we can ensure even development all over the country, it does not matter which party is in power."

The Vice President also promised that the present Federal Government will always make resources available to the FRCN, so that it would be able to consolidate the dividends of democracy.

He urged the FRCN to always strive to uplift and unite the people of Nigeria.

Earlier, Information and National Orientation Minister, Chukwuemeka Chikelu, promised that FRCN would not compromise the high standard it has set for itself.

Said he: "Accountability and transparency can better be achieved in a society where there is a free flow of information."
