FG to use solar energy to power streetlights

The Federal Government will use solar energy to provide streetlights to all its major roads next year.
The Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, Dr. Adedolapo Adeniji, disclosed this in an interview with our correspondent in Ikoyi on Thursday.
Adeniji explained that government had conducted a study on the project and established that it was efficient and cost effective to use solar energy for streetlights.
According to him, the facility would generate electricity during the day and conserve for use at nights.
He also said the Federal Ministry of Works had arranged for security men and local vigilance groups to monitor the streetlights especially at nights.
Adeniji said motorcycles had been procured for the use of the security personnel who would also be on a special remuneration.
The roads to be provided with streetlights according to him, are Oworonshoki-Oshodi-Apapa expressway, Agege Motor Road, Ikeja-Ota Road, Ikorodu Road, Western Avenue, Third Mainland Road, Ozumba Mbadiwe, and Kingsway Roads, among others.
