In spite of the wide publicity and marketing that followedthe Nigerian Breweries Plc’s end of year musical concert, Star Mega Jam,the Port Harcourt segment of the show ran into a terrible hitch yesterday.
SundayIndependent investigations revealed that the Port Harcourt show had to becancelled as a result of a squabble between Nigerian rap artiste, Eedris Abdulkareem, and 50 Cent whilepreparing to leave for Port-Harcourt aboard a chartered ADC aircraft at theMurtala Mohammed Airport, Ikeja, Lagos.
However, trouble started at about 1pm yesterday when 50 Cent, who arrived the airporttwo hours behind schedule, was prevented from taking his seat in the firstclass section of the aircraft by Eedris who was already on the seat meant for50 Cent.
In theargument that ensued, one of the bodyguards with Eedris called “AJ”reportedly brandished a bottle, prompting officials of both the ADC Airline andthe Airport Security unit to force everybody, including the artistes and seniorentertainment journalists, to disembark from the aircraft.
Eyewitnessaccount had it that, but for the swift intervention of the Airport’ssecurity and President of the Performing Musicians Employers’Associationof Nigeria (PMAN) Charles Oputa (Charly Boy), who arrived the airport on acommercial motorcycle (Okada), the situation may have degenerated to afree-for-all fight.
Theconcert was planned as a four-city tour of Abuja, Lagos, Port Harcourt andBenin featuring guest artiste, 50 Cent from the United States.
