PDP Picks Olujimi for Ekiti Bye-Elections

Ekiti South chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has picked a female member as its candidate for the Ekiti South 1 Federal Constituency bye-elections coming up in the weeks ahead.

She is Chief (Mrs) Biodun Olujimi who hails from Omuo Ekiti in Ekiti East Local Government of the State.

A statement by the party's spokesman, Mr. A. Akinwole, explained that Mrs Olujimi was picked as candidate to represent the three Local Government Areas namely Gboyin, Emure and Ekiti East.

A veteran journalist and broadcaster, Akinwole added that Olujimi, a graduate of journalism with a post graduate diploma in public relations, has worked with several media houses including NTA Ibadan, Delta Steel Company Ovwian-Aladja and DBN Television.

He added that she was the National Publicity Secretary of the defunct National Centre Party of Nigeria NCPN, also the former National Publicity Secretary of the All Peoples Party (APP) until it changed its name to ANPP thereby becoming the first National Publicity Secretary of the All Nigeria Peoples Party.

"She decamped to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) early last year and later became a Special Adviser to the Governor of Ekiti Mr. Peter Ayo Fayose."

The House of Represen-tatives seat was made vacant by the death of the Honou-rable from the Consituency, Honourable Abiodun Talabi. Talabi was shot dead by robbers before Abaji on the Lokoja Abuja road on his way back to Abuja from his constituency.

The bye elections will take place later this month. When elected, Ekiti State will have the highest quota of women in the House of Representatives in fulfilment of the Peoples Democratic Party's policy to encourage greater participation of women in politics.
