Nollywood Goes To London
advertisement
First it was 'Osuofia in London' 1&2 (maybe it wasn't the first film to be shot in London but it had the ingenuity to shout so in its title). You must have noticed, at least you'd have seen some of the posters of the new 'Made in London' films (doesn't this sound like a Nollywood film? Here are some of the London films: 'Mr Ibu in London', 'London Forever', 'The London Boy', and I can assure you more are on the way. While they are "thinking" of new London films, can I suggest this: 'London Anybody?' I'm not the new spokes person for our film makers but as sure is sure, people will copy concepts they think are hot. And London is hot right now maybe not literally. But in Nollywood, London is where to go right now. Remember 'Dangerous Twins' was partly shot in London.

Last year, love was the hottest topic. That hasn't quite gone out of fashion but London beckons. Why must everyone go the same way, every time? Why must everyone travel to London now? Very predictable don't you think? Could it be that visas are suddenly very easy to get? Anyway, there's a lot of predictability going on. I'm getting quite predictable too since I'm (ever) ready each time to sing this same song of "follow-follow". Anyhow, let's concentrate on the feat of shooting a film in London. If the point is to show that Nollywood has 'arrived', we now know. Can we move to something else? Can someone else break new grounds so that we can have a fresh wave of 'follow-follow' films? I'm told it's not only in these parts that this trend is popular. Perhaps, it's the fact that some of our own copy cats do not always improve on the original that makes it doubly annoying.
