75 Nigerian companies head to U.S. with expotable products
SEVENTY five Nigerian companies are expected in Atlanta, United States of America to take the country's products to a special export exhibition and investment market tagged, NEXIMART EXPO 2005.
Briefing newsmen in Abuja on the preparations for the exhibition, the Director General of the Association of Nigerian Exporters, Prince Joseph Idiong observed that already fifty companies and agencies from Nigeria had already concluded all registration processes including Visa registration for the show.
He said, "we were planning a very possible showdown there in the U.S., they are expecting us to come with 70-75 companies. Today, as I am talking to you, from both government and public, we already have fifty companies. We are expecting that the Association of Nigerian Exporters will facilitate enough visas to ensure that we meet that number.
"We have gone to the U.S. and have found out what the American market wants from us. We know what they need from us. We are targeting some manufactures as well as some commodities that have added value. "We have also invited those our exporters who cannot make it to bring their products, We are also going to assist those who cannot take pavilions, because it is the responsibility of the Association of Nigerian Exporters to promote all exportable products and services."
Still speaking, Idiong added, " the current publication of the U.S. Trade Representative's office, The Competitiveness Report 2005 published in July 2005 has identified some major product sectors that Nigeria should focus on.
These include, cocoa based products, cashew processed, gum Arabic, sheer butter is highly demanded because of the need of the cosmetic industry, we will also look at Nigerians in the Diaspora and the Africans. We are looking at the cassava-based products. We have gotten from some of our companies that have some that are very attractive. We are going to take as many of these products as possible to the U.S.
"We equally have leather and leather products. Some of them are very unique," Idiong added. We are in a position to inform Nigeria's export market .The Nigerian Export Exhibition and investment market is taking off. It is a reality.
"We have been able to secure the approved support of the Federal Government of Nigeria. It is a serious landmark, because it is a clear demonstration of public-private partnership."
In preparation for the Nigerian Export Exhibition and Investment Market (NEXIMART) Expo scheduled for November 15-17, 2005 in Atlanta, Georgia, United States Idiong noted that the Association of Nigerian Exporters (ANE) and the Government of Atlanta, Georgia United States of America have signed a pact that would see exportable products from Nigeria being displayed at the special fair to be put together through a joint collaboration effort.
Under the pact, a Nigerian Export and Exhibition Market, which has been scheduled for November 15-17 2005, would be held at the World Trade Centre in Atlanta.
Idiong also stressed that the association has the written approval of the Government of Georgia to set up its trade office there. Idiong maintained that outside non-oil, the association was targeting the oil and gas downstream sector.
