FROM ABIODUN FAGBEMI ILORIN

THE General Overseer of Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye has predicted an imminent outbreak of air borne epidemic across the world, this year.

Besides, Adeboye, a clergyman who in the recent times has shown some concern for the state of the nation, said the successive air mishaps towards the end of the year 2005 in Nigeria were spiritually motivated.

Speaking at the early hours of yesterday at the RCCG retreat ground, Kilometre 47, Lagos - Ibadan Expressway, the pastor said the epidemic which could apparently be linked with some of the signs of the second coming of Jesus Christ (His Second Coming) would defy all medical reasoning.

He warned that only those who could sincerely pray to God would escape the wrath of the epidemic.

While addressing a gathering of about three million worshippers, he said "I am not frightening anybody, but to be forewarned is to be forearmed. A particular epidemic is to break out throughout the world. It will be spread by air. Therefore, this is not a year of casual prayers at all. The emphasis is on the word and sincerity," he said.

"Throughout the month of February (this year), everybody who loves himself and this nation must fast through the month. You can enjoy yourself in the month of January but sincere prayers must be made to God in the month of February," he added.

Speaking on calls for the removal of the Minister for Aviation, Professor Babalola Barishade over incessant air mishaps in Nigeria, the pastor said the causes were beyond human control.

"We have not yet come out of the woods in Nigeria," he said. "The minister (of Aviation) must not be blamed. There are many forces working against the country. Ordinary prayers will not work against them but serious prayers."

He said the crashes were part of the plan of the devil, which was that there should be plane crashes for 49 days until God stepped in to minimize it.

Adeboye, who canvassed rewards for sincere policemen in Nigeria this year, said the bad eggs among them would be exposed.
