Computer-for-All Project kicks-off with 500,000 units

President Olusegun Obasa-njo would today kick-start government's ambitious programme of bringing computer application to the door-steps of every Nigerian, with the distribution of 500,000 computers at 50 per cent discount rate of the current market price under the Computer for All Nigerian Initiative (CANI)
Director-General of Nigeria Information Techn-ology Development Agency (NITDA), Mr Cleopas Angaye, who disclosed this yesterday at the signing of Memorandum of Underst-anding with Amb-Multiserve Limited, a firm appointed to manage the progromme.
Under the agreement which also involved two giant computer manufacturing companies, Microsoft and INTEL, Angaye said Intel, Microsoft and some local-based ICT firms will play major roles in the IT project.
Participating companies are to enjoy some tax waivers for computers imported for the programme.
