Gombe State Deputy Governor Hon. John Yoriyo on Sunday night narrowly escaped death as he was shot by a night guard who allegedly mistook him for an armed robber.
The Deputy Governor who was on Security Surveillance at the time of the incident, was immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Gombe where he was treated of chest injures as a result of the gunshot.
THISDAY checks revealed that the incident happened at about 9:30 pm at Tumpere in the outskirts of Gombe metropolis.
It was gathered that the night guard on sighting the black Jeep of Hon. Yoriyo opened fire, thinking he was one of robbers who had earlier robbed in the area.
Yoriyo who was discharged at about 12 noon yesterday at a press conference, thanked God for saving his life.
He said as the Chairman, Security committee in the State he went to see the State Security Adviser, Alhaji Bappa Mohammed on security matters when the incident happened.
He said "You are all aware there are security problems all over the State. I first phoned the Special Adviser and later decided to go to his house so that we can talk and make necessary arrangement. You don't expect me to talk issues that are sensitive on phone."

Hon. Yoriyo said the shooting incident was not deliberate but a mere accident and that he had been treated and discharged.
"I want to assure you that it was a mere accident and nothing more than that.?"
The Deputy Governor urged Journalists to shun rumour and report what actually happened.
"I want you to report based on what I have said. Don't take any rumour, don't create any rumour and don't interpret what I have not said?" Hon. Yoriyo stressed.
The State Police Commissioner Alhaji Atiku Kafur when contacted on phone confirmed the incident and agreed with what the State Deputy Governor said.
He said the Police was still investigating and no arrest has been made.
