A Mercedes Benz car owner (names withheld) has helped the FCT Police Command in smashing a notorious gang of car hijackers operating within the Karu-Lafia axis.
Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory, Mr. Lawrence Alobi, who confirmed this to THISDAY, said the man was attacked by unknown persons and his car snatched around Karu village.
“The man was attacked at gun point and was asked to surrender everything on him, including some personal effects. However, by omission or commission, they got the man’s phone number and called him on his mobile number asking for N400,000 before they could return his car and other effects back to him,.”
Alobi said the victim quickly reported to the Police where he was asked to play along so that the suspects could be arrested.
“The victim was instructed to take the said money to Aso, Mararaba in Nasarawa State and was warned not to involve the Police. He was also told to use a white Mercedes Benz car for easy identification.”
Unknown to the armed robbers, there were police detectives in the boot of the car.
Immediately the suspects collected the bag of money Alobi said, the Policemen swung into action coming out of the boot of the car and arrested the suspects.
Those arrested include Abubakar Mohammed, Ebere Umeh and Osajiokwu Sunday.
“The victim’s car key was found on Mohammed and the suspects led detectives to Lafia, Nasarawa state where the stolen car was recovered. There are indicationsthat other members of the gang are on the run but we are on their trail.”
