Okeke tours U.S., UK institutions for capacity building
By Alex Emeje, Senior Correspondent, Abuja
Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Ebele Okeke, has held meetings with some manpower development institutions in America and the United Kingdom.
The meetings are aimed at exploring opportunities for institutional linkages, collaboration and partnership with the Federal Civil Service College.
Some of the institutions visited for discussions included Harvard University School of Government, Boston, United States Agency for International Development ( USAID), World Bank Institute, United States Foreign Service Institute and the National School of Government, London.
According to a statement, the areas of collaboration with the institutions are curriculum development and execution of joint programmes, staff exchange through short-term secondment of partner institutions staff to the Civil Service College and reciprocal attachment of selected college staff to partner institutions.
Other areas are training and fellowship options for faculty members of the Civil Service College and the information exchange on good practices.
According to Okeke, investing more on knowledge in today's world is the greatest asset in national transformation.
She noted that the visit was a successful one because all the institutions visited were in support of the ongoing efforts in addressing the capacity inadequacies of the Nigerian public service, including the establishment of the Civil Service College.
She added that they promised to partner with the college in various ways to ensure the effective take-off of the college and its sustainable development as a centre of learning, innovation, and excellence.
Memorandum of understanding with each of the institutions are being worked out even as the top management of the National School of Government in London would be visiting Nigeria between April 21-23 for further discussions on all the areas discussed.
