The armed bandits, numbering about five, attacked the priest at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Bashorun, in Ibadan and carted away laptops, a vehicle and an unspecified amount of money.

Luck, however, ran against the robbers at about 1.00 a.m as they were apprehended by the police on their way to Abeokuta, Ogun State.

One of them was reportedly shot dead during a gun duel with the police, a police source at the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) told the Nigerian Tribune.

According to the source, the front tyre of the stolen vehicle was shot by the police when they were ordered to stop at a police checkpoint but they refused.

The three armed robbers, who were apprehended with the stolen vehicle, were taken to SARS office in Ibadan after they had been paraded to newsmen in Eleweran police headquarters in Abeokuta by the new Police Commissioner in the state, Mr. Solomon Olusegun.

While confirming that the suspects were currently being interrogated, the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, ‘Bisi Okuwobi, said the suspects would soon be charged to court.
