Katako, who drove the team that made the attempt on the life of the late politician spoke while giving evidence as a prosecution witness at the resumed hearing of the attempted murder trial of a member of the strike force of the late Head of State, Mr. Aminu Mohammed and an aide to the late Alhaja Kudirat Abiola, Alhaji Lateef Shofolahan told the court that the first accused (Aminu Mohammed) did not partake in the shooting of Adesanya.

According to Katako, Aminu (who sat at the back seat of the car used in trailing Adesanya) and himself embarked on the assignment not knowing the purpose of the mission which was known only by the leader of the team, Sgt. Barnabas Jabila Msheilla also known as Sgt. Rogers.

His words: "My boss (Mohammed Abacha) gave all of us that made the trip to Lagos for the assignment $10,000 to leave the country because investigations had started on the attempted murder on Adesanya.

" I and Aminu (first accused) went to Niger Republic where we stayed for about two or three days before I came back to Lagos."

While being led in evidence by the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecution, Mrs. Olabisi Ogungbesan, Katako who under cross examination stated that he was surprised when Rogers opened fire on Adesanya car in narrating the event that characterised the attempt on Adesanya's life said: "My boss told me to follow Rogers, Aminu and One late Samaila Shuiabu to Lagos. When we arrived, we went to Alhaji Lateef's residence and Rogers went into his house.

"On the day of the incident, we went to Igbosere along Sura Market to a one storey building where we saw a Black Mercedez parked outside and Rogers asked us to pack on the other side of the road where we waited until someone came out of the office building and went into the Mercedez and when the car started moving, Rogers said I should follow the Mercedez car.

"The person that entered the car was an elderly man, I followed the car to a junction around Sura Market and then drove towards the road going to Osborne road and Rogers, who was seated at the front came out through the window and started shooting at the Mercedez car and later asked me to drive back to Dodan Barracks.

"Later that evening, Rogers bought evening papers where it was reported that Abraham Adesanya was shot around that venue, and it was then that I knew that Abraham Adesanya was the person inside the car that I was trailing.

"The first accused (Aminu Mohammed) did not shot because the back glasses of the car where he sat was bad and could not be wound down".

The matter has been adjourned till today (Thursday) for further hearing.
