Speaking in Abuja, the former Orlando Pirates coach said the the excuse offered was untenable

“They called to tell me they would not be available for national assignment on that day because their clubs in Israel would be playing their last league matches that same day. I refuse to accept that excuse because their club presidents should know what to do given the prevailing circumstance. I wouldn’t tolerate that rubbish, “he said.

Amodu however, revealed that he had decided to invite Greg Etafia to be on standby if the two goalkeepers did not eventually turn up.

He confirmed that he was in Portmourth a few weeks ago to appeal for the support of Super Eagles captain, Kanu Nwankwo to assist him in ensuring that he succeeds in his new job.

Amodu said that Kanu agreed that there was a need for a new orientation towards ensuring that the country’s senior national team returned to reckoning in Africa and world football saying that this called for a lot of sacrifice.

The Edo State born coach added that Kanu also promised that the players will meet during the friendly match against Austria to fashion a way forward for Nigerian football.
