Impeccable source revealed that that the Nigerian midfield maestro, in a matter of time, would swell the number of Nigerian international footballers in the United Kingdom who enjoy dual nationalty.

Having lived in the United Kingdom for about three years, playing in the English premiership with Chelsea Football Club, Mikel is eligible to obtain a British passports baring any unforeseen circumstances. In an exclusve interview with Tribunesports London correspondents, Mikel confirmed the development, stating that it would not be out of place if he applied for British Citizenship.

According to him, having lived in the United Kingdom for sometime, he said he was looking forward to becoming a British citizen. ‘’Having been here for three years now, I’m looking forward to upgrading my status in the United Kingdom, then other things can follow,’’ he said.

If Mikel’s application is granted, he would have gone the ways of Nigerian national team’s captain, Nwankwo Kanu, Celestine Babayaro who already have dual citizenship. It would be recalled that Super Eagles forward and Everton hitman, Yakubu Aiyegbeni also enjoys an European nationality. Meanwhile, Mikel Obi’s fate still hangs in the balance as the player still has drink-driving charge against his name. The case will be heard in June in London.
